Fiber Pigtails

Fiber Pigtails are prefabricated fiber optic connection assemblies that are commonly used in the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks. They usually consist of a section of bare fiber and a connector, where one end of the fiber is bare and the other end is connected with a standard fiber optic connector such as SC, LC, ST, etc. Fiber optic pigtails get their name from the fact that the bare fiber at one end looks like an animal’s tail.

The purpose of a fiber optic pigtail is to provide a convenient connection point that allows fiber optic devices to be easily connected to a fiber optic network. They are commonly used to connect devices such as fiber optic patch cords, fiber optic splice boxes, and fiber optic distribution racks in fiber optic networks. Another common use for fiber optic pigtails is to connect fiber optic equipment and test instruments for testing and verification during the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks.

Fiber optic pigtails are usually prefabricated at the factory with standardized lengths and connector types, which ensures the quality and consistency of the connection. They play an important role in the deployment and maintenance of fiber optic networks and are one of the common basic components in fiber optic communication systems.
