Armored Cables

Armored Cables are fiber optic cables with an extra protective layer, usually made of braided wire or foil. This extra protective layer provides increased durability and protection, giving fiber optic cables longer life and better performance in a variety of harsh environments.

The primary function of Armored Cables is to protect the internal structure of the fiber optic from external physical damage such as pressure, tension, bending, extrusion, and rodent bites. They are typically used in environments that require extra protection, such as outdoors, industrial locations, military applications, etc. In these environments, fiber optic cables are susceptible to mechanical damage or external interference and therefore require an additional protective layer to protect the integrity and stability of the fiber.

Armored Cables’ external protective layer is usually made of corrosion-resistant metal materials, such as aluminum, steel or copper, to ensure that fiber optic cables maintain their performance and functionality over time in harsh environments. This extra layer of protection gives fiber optic cables greater durability, tensile and compression resistance for reliable operation in a variety of challenging environments.
