Polarization Maintaining EDFA

Polarization Maintaining EDFA (PM-EDFA, Polarization Maintaining Fiber Amplifier) is a specially designed fiber optic amplifier for amplifying optical signals and maintaining the polarization state of the optical signal. This amplifier combines the technology of bias-maintaining fiber optics with that of erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA), and is designed to provide high gain and low noise amplification at a specific polarization state.

In conventional EDFAs, the amplification process of erbium-doped fibers introduces a random polarization effect, resulting in a random change in the polarization state of the output optical signal. PM-EDFA, on the other hand, adopts a polarization-preserving fiber technology, which maintains the polarization state of the optical signal through the carefully designed fiber structure and processing technology, so that the polarization state of the output optical signal remains stable.
