PDH Multiplexer

A PDH Multiplexer (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy Multiplexer) is a device used for transmitting a variety of digital signals, primarily for transmitting a variety of digital signals such as voice, data, and video. They are commonly used in telecommunications and data communications to integrate multiple low-speed digital signals into a single high-speed digital signal for transmission over a network.

A PDH Multiplexer can integrate multiple low-speed digital signals (e.g., 2Mbps, 8Mbps, 34Mbps, etc.) from different sources into a single high-speed digital signal, which can then be transmitted over optical fiber or other transmission media. This improves transmission efficiency and bandwidth utilization while reducing transmission costs.

PDH Multiplexers typically provide multiple interfaces for connecting digital signal sources at different rates, as well as one or more high-speed interfaces for transmitting the integrated high-speed digital signal. They also provide features such as clock synchronization, signal switching and management to ensure transmission stability and reliability.

Although PDH Multiplexers used to be a common transmission technology in the past, they are gradually being replaced by more advanced technologies as technologies such as SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) and Ethernet evolve. However, there are specific scenarios where a PDH Multiplexer may still be used to transmit digital signals.
