ONU/ONT
ONU (Optical Network Unit) and ONT (Optical Network Terminal) are two common types of user terminal equipment in fiber optic communication networks, which are typically used to receive and process optical signals from OLTs and provide services such as data, voice, and video to users.
1. ONU (Optical Network Unit):
An ONU, usually referred to as an Optical Network Unit, is a type of customer-side equipment used in fiber-optic access networks such as EPON or GPON. It is usually installed in the user’s residential area or enterprise building, used to receive optical signals from OLT, and convert them into electrical signals, and then through the Ethernet interface to the user’s terminal equipment, such as computers, routers, IP phones, etc. ONU is also responsible for the management of the user’s access process, user authentication, access control and other operations.
2. ONT (Optical Network Terminal):
ONT usually refers to Optical Network Terminal, which is a type of client-side equipment used in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks. Similar to ONU, ONT is also responsible for receiving optical signals from OLT, converting them into electrical signals, and then providing them to subscriber’s terminal equipment through Ethernet interface.ONT is usually installed inside subscriber’s home or enterprise, and is used to provide services such as broadband access, VoIP telephony, and IPTV.
