Laser Diodles

Laser Diodes are semiconductor devices that convert electrical energy into a laser beam. They are commonly used as light sources in opto-electronic devices and are widely used in the fields of communication, medicine, industry and science.

Laser diodes are basically composed of a PN structure in which the activation layer is usually a semiconductor material such as gallium arsenide (GaAs). When a voltage is applied through the diode, the electrons in the activation layer are excited to a high energy level, and then as the excited electrons fall back to a lower energy level, they release photons of energy to produce a laser light.
